How to Add Your Menu to Google Business Profile

· 3 min read · By the Pankarta team

Many people check a restaurant's menu on Google before they decide to go. Your Business Profile has two separate places for it: a menu link and menu items. They do different jobs, and you can use both.

How to add a menu link

The menu link sends people to your full menu. These are the steps in Google's help article:

  1. Go to your Business Profile at business.google.com.
  2. Select Edit profile, then Business information.
  3. Select Contact, then Menu link.
  4. Enter the URL of your menu.
  5. Select Save.

Google may show the option in a slightly different place depending on your business and device, so check its help page if yours looks different.

How to add menu items

You can also type dishes directly into your profile:

  1. Go to your Business Profile.
  2. Select Edit menu.
  3. Select a section, then Add menu item, or use Add menu section to start a new one.
  4. Enter the item's details and select Save.

The catch: these items live inside Google. When a price changes, you have to update it there too. If you have a long menu or change it often, type in only your best sellers and let the menu link carry the full, current version.

Which link should you use?

Choose a link that meets these three conditions:

  • It opens the menu right away. Don't send people to a home page where they have to look for it.
  • It reads well on a phone. A page built for phones is easier to use than a PDF of a printed menu.
  • It doesn't change. Use the same link you use on your website and social profiles, so you only maintain one menu.

A Pankarta menu gives you a link like that. The address stays the same when you edit the menu, so you don't have to come back to your Google profile for each change.

Common problems

Google shows old prices or an old menu

Check the menu items in your profile first, since those don't update by themselves. Also look for old menu photos and remove the ones you can. Customers can upload photos too; if one is wrong, you can report it from your profile.

Your changes don't appear right away

Edits to a Business Profile can take some time to show. Give it a few days before you change it again.

You don't see the option

Menu options depend on your business category, so check that your primary category is a type of restaurant. You also need to manage the profile, so make sure the listing is claimed and verified.
